<p>ELECRAMA is the world&#8217;s largest electrical T&amp;D exhibition held biennially in Mumbai, India since 1990. From the beginnings in 1990 with 283 exhibitors, it has grown significantly. During the last edition two years ago, ELECRAMA hosted 1,243 exhibitors from many different countries.</p>
<p>During this exhibition, LIOS proudly presented the new EN.SURE generation of Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) systems and Real Time Thermal Rating (RTTR) solutions for ampacity predictions of energy transmission:</p>

(“Opsens”) (TSXV: OPS) is pleased to announce signing of a long-term agreement with Lios Technology GmbH (“Lios”) to provide an integrated solution to measure pressure and temperature in SAGD wells.</strong></p>
<p>With this agreement, <a title="Opsens" href="http://www.opsens.com" target="_blank">Opsens</a>’ OPP-W high-temperature optical pressure and temperature sensor will be combined to LIOS’ <a title="Distributed Temperature Sensing" href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Menu/Technology/Distributed+Temperature+Sensing" target="_blank">high-temperature Distributed Temperature Sensing System (&#8220;DTS&#8221;) </a>to provide a complete profile to optimize and improve SAGD well management. Combining the two complementary well monitoring technologies incorporating temperature and pressure measurements from two leading suppliers of fiber optic based measurement systems contributed to the successful installation of their High Temperature solution into already several projects in Canada.</p>

<p>In thermal recovery processes, Opsens’ OPP-W fiber optic sensor system provides oil sands producers with reliable real-time downhole pressure and temperature information about their SAGD wells during operation. The ability to accurately control bottomhole pressure at high temperatures for artificial lift systems such as electrical submersible pumps allows SAGD operators to improve steam/oil ratios and to reduce operating and lifting costs.  For multiple well operations, this can provide millions of dollars in savings by reducing water treatment costs, optimizing natural gas consumption as it pertains to steam generation and enhancing the run time of artificial lift systems. <p>The <a href="http://www.cigre.org.br/zpublisher/secoes/home.asp" target="_blank">Brazilian National Study Committee of Cigré </a>B1 – Insulated Cables – is going to promote an International Workshop on Insulated Cables <strong>“ <a href="http://www.rpmbrasil.com.br/r11_anuncio.htm" target="_blank">Workshop Internacional Sobre Cablos Eletricos </a>” </strong>, this year in São Paulo, Brazil.</p>
<p>The workshop taking place 20 – 22 June 2011, will be composed of short tutorials with international specialists on the following subjects:</p>
<ul>
<li>State of the art of technologies for maintenance of underground transmission lines (138 kV and above). The preferential methodologies that will be focused will be: measurement of partial discharges in field, detection and localization of small oil leakages in OF cables, and other maintenance edge technologies.</li>
<li>Monitoring of underground transmission lines in real time: distributed temperature, current capacity, partial discharge, etc.</li>
<li>Methods of calculation of magnetic fields of underground transmission lines and mitigation of magnetic fields generated by underground facilities.</li>
<li>New technologies for high voltage cables and accessories: high-temperature superconductors, hybrid joints, Y joints, &#8220;plug in&#8221; joints and terminations.</li>
</ul>
<p>LIOS Technology is participating with two tutorials captioned “New Technologies for Maintenance and Monitoring Systems of Insulated Cables” (Novas Tecnologias De Manutencao E Sistemas De Monitoramento De Cablos Isolados De AT) focusing on new trends for real time condition monitoring of insulated high voltage cables. Theoretical backgrounds as well as hands-on experience of recent projects serve as a base for interesting discussions with the Brazilian specialists on insulated cables.</p>

Jicable &#8217;11 is an international forum for the exchange of information in the fields of research, industrial development, installation, operation and diagnoses relating to insulated power cables and their accessories from low voltage and special cables up to ultra high voltage cables and cables of new technologies.</p>

<p>Insulated power cables are increasingly used in electrical power transmission and distribution networks. This is due to the significant progress achieved in the development of new technologies with higher performances, and supported by increasing environmental pressure. Cables are recognised as a reliable means for the transportation and distribution of electrical energy. Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) of long distance power cables is shown to provide valuable information for cable design optimisation and proper operation of wind farms. The long range sensing is enabled by using the Raman-OFDR (optical frequency domain reflectometry) technology in single-mode fibres. Raman-OFDR uses a modulated continuous wave laser for detection. The low peak power minimizes stimulated Raman-scattering in single-mode fibres making accurate temperature sensing over long distances feasible.</td>

The new cable installation is one of the city’s main transmission lines and is heavily loaded. In order to optimize the transmission performance and to guarantee its secure reliability, the cable installation has been equipped with large scale cross-bonding systems at its sheath. In addition, by the help of the LIOS temperature monitoring system (DTS), the level of backup capacity can be assessed.</td>

In October 2006 the commissioning of the integrated condition monitoring system (CMS) for real-time monitoring of cables was successfully completed. Together with a Distributed Temperature Sensor (DTS) a parallel run of cables installed in a tunnel near Stockholm (Sweden) is being continuously rated by RTTR.</td>

Middle East Electricity 2011 is expecting a trade visitor attendance of over 50,000 and has confirmed that all available exhibition space has been sold. In total, over 1,000 exhibitors from 58 countries covering 45,000 square metres of exhibition space are participating this year.</p>

<p>아산시에 위치한 본 공장을 대한민국의 수도 서울로부터 약42km 서남쪽에 있으며 내년 7월에 완공예정입니다.</p>
<p>삼성 모바일 디스플레이㈜는 공장건설에 2조5천억원(미화21억1천만불)을 투자할 계획입니다.</p>
<p>상기 합작회사는 AM OLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode)표시판을 생산할 예정이며 이 제품은 모바일폰이나 소형 텔레비전과 같은 휴대용 기기에 사용될 예정입니다.</p>

<p>전력송신시스템의 분포온도의 내역은 <a title="Prysmian Cables &amp; Systems" href="http://www.prysmian.com/" target="_blank">프리스미안 전선</a>㈜에서 공급되었으며 실시간 온도는 FIMT방법 즉 <a title="Fiber in Metal Tube (FIMT)" href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Applications/Electric+Power+Sector/Products+%22Power%22/The+Fibre+In+Metal+Tube+%28FIMT%29" target="_blank">금속튜브 안에 광케이블</a>을 집어넣는 방식으로 전선 안에 매립시켜 측정합니다.</p>
<p>분포온도(DTS) 수치는 중앙통제실에서 볼 수 있으며, 안전한 작동을 확인시켜줄 뿐 아니라 고압케이블 선로가 충분한 용량으로 공급될 수 있도록 허용시켜 줍니다.</p>

The plant in Asan city, 42 kilometres southwest of Seoul, <strong></strong>South  Korea, will be completed by July next year. Samsung Mobile Display  plans to spend 2.5 trillion won (US$2.11 billion) on the plant.<br />
The  joint venture will produce active-matrix organic light-emitting diode  (AM OLED) displays, which are used in portable devices such as mobile  phones and small TVs.<br />
LIOS Technology recently completed the  installation of its real time condition monitoring system supervising  three 154kV high voltage cable systems on site. Condition monitoring is  based on LIOS’  <a title="Distributed Temperature Sensing Systems (DTS) are optoelectronic devices which measure temperature by means of optical fibres functioning as linear sensors. Temperatures are recorded along the optical sensor cable, thus not at points, but as a distributed profile." href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Menu/Technology/Distributed+Temperature+Sensing">Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) System </a>OTS20P with a 16 channel fibre switch.<br />
The distributed temperature profiles of the energy transmission systems made by <a title="Prysmian Cables &amp; Systems" href="http://www.prysmian.com/" target="_blank">Prysmian Cables &amp; Systems </a>are measured in real time by embedded fibre optics using  <a title="Fibre encapsulated in stainless steel tube or short “Fibre In Metal Tube (FIMT)” is a hermetically sealed rugged construction for very long lengths of optical fibres. Furthermore, it is particularly effective in protecting against the hydrostatic pressures, high temperature effects and corrosive environments." href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Applications/Electric+Power+Sector/Products+%22Power%22/The+Fibre+In+Metal+Tube+%28FIMT%29">FIMT </a>. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>A new report by the European Wind Energy Association &#8211; Powering Europe &#8211;  which sets out its vision for the European grid of the future has been  launched today at the Grids 2010 conference in Berlin.</strong></p>

<p>‘Powering Europe’, launched today at the GRIDS 2010  conference and exhibition in Berlin organised by EWEA, argues there are  no major technical barriers – but there are major economic benefits &#8211; to  integrating large amounts of fuel- and pollution-free wind energy into  Europe’s electricity grid.<br />
The new report identifies infrastructure  and markets as the two key barriers to hugely increasing the amount of  wind power in Europe’s electricity supply.</p>
<p>In order to deliver the onshore and offshore wind energy from where it is produced to where it will be consumed, Europe needs:<br />
•    extended, upgraded and better connected grids,<br />
•    fair and effective competition in a truly internal European market in electricity.<br />
The  economic benefits of creating a single market in electricity and  improve the infrastructure are substantial, according to the new EWEA  report. The benefits of a better interconnected grid include a €1,500  million yearly reduction in total operational costs of power generation  due to increased availability of all generation capacity.<br />
The  benefit of integrating 265 Gigawatt (GW) of wind into Europe’s grids by  2020 – compared to no further growth in wind power capacity &#8211; would be a  saving of €41.7bn per year in the cost of electricity. This is a ‘merit  order’ effect of €11 for every MWh produced not just those MWh produced  by wind turbines. And if our electricity markets are functioning that  is a saving that could be passed on to consumers.</p>
<p>The electricity  grid infrastructure needed to accommodate increasingly large amounts of  renewable energy  and create effective competition in a single market  in electricity includes a new offshore grid in Europe’s Northern Seas  (North Sea, Irish Sea and Baltic Sea), as well as a number of improved  interconnections across continental Europe (especially between Spain and  France but also between Germany and its neighbours, across the Alps and  in eastern and south eastern Europe).</p>
<p>HVDC cables are an  attractive new technological option for long-distance electricity  superhighways such as the offshore grid that is required in the near  future, says the new report.</p>
<p>The report also reveals that  flexibility will need to be a key feature of European power systems in  the future. This means power generation will have to be more flexible to  take into account variable sources of power such as wind and solar.  Smart grids will be needed to allow management of demand as well as  improved management of supply, and largely national grids will have to  be better interconnected. EWEA’s new report shows how Denmark, Germany,  Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands have managed their power systems much  more flexibly than in the past.</p>
<p>Daniel Dobbeni, President of  ENTSO-E, said: “this report is a very welcome publication with a clear  view towards 2020, 2030 and 2050. Together with our Ten Year Network  Development Plan, it helps building a common understanding on the major  issues surrounding the integration of wind energy in the European grids.  The report also provides arguments that will certainly be in the centre  of policy debate as we can presently observe from the publication of  the Commission’s blueprint for an integrated European energy network.”</p>

The Korean made 220  kV, 630 mm <sup>2 </sup>XLPE high voltage cable system includes  <a title="Fibre encapsulated in stainless steel tube or short “Fibre In Metal Tube (FIMT)” is a hermetically sealed rugged construction for very long lengths of optical fibres. Furthermore, it is particularly effective in protecting against the hydrostatic pressures, high temperature effects and corrosive environments." href="http://www.lios-tech.com/Applications/Electric+Power+Sector/Products+%22Power%22/The+Fibre+In+Metal+Tube+%28FIMT%29">fibre optics in metal tube (FIMT) </a>and supplies pumps, SAG mills (Semi-Autogenous Grinding) and other grinding equipment.</p>

<p>The CIGRE 2010 Session &#8211; International Council on Large Electric Systems – was once again an impressive industry gathering of international experts for electrical high voltage systems. It was the ideal platform for LIOS to celebrate its company anniversary as many loyal friends and partners were already in town.</p>
<p>LIOS Technology has chosen the historic cave system of Les Crayères des Montquartiers for its evening function which offers festive and cosy atmosphere but also bridging to LIOS company launch with its successes in fire detection systems for tunnels.</p>
